NexusMUD is one of the oldest muds on the internet.
Nexus II was based on DikuMUD, Merc and SillyMUD,
although towards the end of that codebase there was
very little left which hadn't been recoded by the
then coders, Yann Stettler and Chris Javet. Nexus
II, because it relied on the older C written codebase,
inherited alot of the disorganisation and problems
of its predecessors. Nexus is now in the process of
being rewritten from scratch, this time in C++, by
our resident guru coder, Henri Muurimaa (Zak). Rebuilding
Nexus is a big project, which will take time to complete.
So bear with us, and check up on the news to see how
we're going. If you want to drop us an email then
feel free, send it to nexus@nexus.cohprog.com.

Nexus II consisted of a series of "planes"
of which there was the Prime Material plane, the Abyssal
plane, and the Water plane, all linked together by the
Astral Plane. The next generation Nexus will draw on
this idea, and ideas from the popular Planescape games
to produce new planes, and sub-planes, in an effort
to create a diverse and interesting multiverse. At the
nexus of all these planes is the appropriately named
Nexus City. Nexus City is built on a huge rock floating
between the planes. The city was constructed by the
Clanners, who built spires and towers from the red rock,
and used the power of steam to make the city tick. Above
some of the spires, swirling orb portals allow access
to the multitude of other planes. Because of this Nexus
City quickly became overrun by planar beings from other
planes. At first the Clanners welcomed the new visitors,
who employed their skills to expand the city. However
as time wore on the Clanners became more and more of
a minority until eventually they abandoned the city
and have sought refuge underground. Since then planar
beings from all over have come to Nexus City in an effort
to make it their home, resulting in a mix of races and
cultures, in an enforced harmony. |
